Romantic Danube: Marriott Courtyard Prague

Romantic Danube: Overview
Romantic Danube: Flying United from Chicago to Brussels
Romantic Danube: Brussels and continuing to Prague
Romantic Danube: Marriott Courtyard Prague

One of the benefits of holding the Chase Marriott Visa is that each year you get a free night at a category 1-4 hotel, just for paying your annual fee.  Or, to look at it another way, you get a discounted rate of $85 for any category 1-4 hotel in the Marriott chain.  Since C and I each own the card, we chose to use our free nights at the only category 1-4 Marriott in Prague, which was a Courtyard.  For our final night in the city we chose to splurge on the Boscolo, which is part of Marriott's Autograph Collection.

We were told that the hotel was completely full for the night though our room had a connecting door and we never heard a peep out of anyone on the other side, which was nice.  We'd reserved a room with two beds and were pleased that they weren't twins but something larger, perhaps double beds.

On the wall facing the beds was a nice long desk that doubled as the stand for the flat-screen TV.

A built-in wardrobe was at the end of the desk.

Between the beds and the bathroom was a shelf with the coffee/tea station.

Underneath the shelf was a cabinet with the safe and the mini-bar.

The bathroom was fairly large.  While there was only one sink, there was plenty of counter space on either side so each of us could have our own section for our toiletries.  The toilet was just beyond the sink on the left side of the room.

On the right side was the shower/tub combo.  As is usual in Europe, the tub was a bit narrower and the sides were taller than what we're accustomed to having so stepping out always feels like it's a long way down.  The shower curtain was on a curved rod, which was nice, but the curtain wasn't long enough to be sealed off at both ends at the same time, which was kind of odd.

I liked the toiletries, which were Sea-of-Spa brand.  The smell was citrus-y.

We slept soundly but woke up quite warm, as often happens to us in Europe.  We ended up leaving the window ajar all day which helped the room cool down enough to sleep the second night.

One reason we don't often stay at Courtyards is that breakfast is not included, even if you have Gold status.  Hilton's Hampton Inns, Hyatt's Hyatt Places and even Marriott's own Residence Inns all include breakfast with the room.  So why it isn't included with Courtyards is a mystery to me.

We paid for the buffet breakfast each morning and it was quite good.  Loads of choices that I'll let speak for themselves.

While the Courtyard is not convenient to Old Town and much of the tourist stuff, the tram tracks go right down the street beside the hotel.  Across the street is a mall with a currency exchange and beneath the mall is a subway station so it's not hard to get around at all.  If your primary purpose for visiting Prague is for tourism and you don't mind a short commute, staying here will save you some money compared to some of the hotels closer to Old Town.
